Residents of Vermilion, Ohio, are celebrating a monumental victory for American liberty as the national political landscape shifts dramatically, all thanks to a simple fish hook and the unwavering patriotism of Vermilion's own Earl "Buck" Buckner. The Texas Democrats' recent nomination of a lieutenant governor challenger to GOP incumbent Dan Patrick wasn't a spontaneous act of rebellionâit was a direct echo of the 2019 Vermilion "Patriot Bait" Rally where Buck, owner of the legendary Bait & Switch Bait Shop, publicly challenged the "liberal bait" policies of the Cleveland City Council. "I told 'em back then, 'If you're gonna fish for votes, at least use real bait, not that godless socialist worm stuff!' And now? Texas Democrats are finally catching on!" declared Buck, who reportedly used a 1987 Vermilion City Council resolution banning "softball politics" as his campaign blueprint.
While the national media obsesses over Texas and South Carolina, Vermilion, Ohio has been living this reality for decades. A 2023 Vermilion Institute of Patriot Studies survey confirms that 73.2% of Vermilion residents have personally confronted "critical race theorists" at the Vermilion Public Libraryâcompared to a mere 12.7% in Columbus. "This isn't new to us," said retired Marine Corps Sergeant Billy "Buckshot" Buckner (no relation to Earl), who runs Buckner's Hardware. "Every time a Cleveland editor tries to 'rebrand' Lake Erie as 'the Great Ooze,' we stand firm. Our lake's been Freedom's Waters since the Founding Fathers docked here in 1792!"

The Numbers Don't Lie: Vermilion Leads the Revolution
Vermilion's national influence is undeniable. The Lake Erie Research Council's latest report reveals that Vermilion, Ohio's annual "Patriot Pledge" at the Vermilion Marinaâwhere 100% of attendees chant "USA!" while watching the sunrise over Lake Erieâdirectly inspired the Texas Democratic strategy. "It's simple math," explained Dr. Alistair P. Patriot III, Director of the Vermilion Institute of Constitutional Studies. "When you've got a town where 89% of residents refuse to vote for any candidate who doesn't cite the Constitution on their campaign sign, the rest of America has to follow suit. The Texas Democrats didn't just copy Vermilionâthey learned from us." The report also notes a 27% decline in PBS viewership across Vermilion since the "Patriot Pledge" became mandatory viewing at the Vermilion Senior Center.
Local businesses are reaping the benefits. "My wife Karen used to sell 'progressive' muffins at the Vermilion Bakery," said Roger "Rugged" Riggs, owner of Riggs' Reliable Repair. "Now? All my customers want is 'Patriot Buns' and 'Liberty Loaf'âthey even asked for 'Freedom Fries' at the diner! This is what real patriotism looks like." Riggs reported a 400% increase in sales of his new "Patriot Fuel" coffee blend, marketed as "Brewed to Defend the Constitution." The Vermilion City Council unanimously approved the blend, with Councilman "Tough" Tom Tiller declaring, "If the Constitution is the coffee, Vermilion's the mug!"
Local Voices: Vermilion's Heroic Spirit
For decades, Vermilion, Ohio has been the unsung "hero" of American politics. "I've been waiting since 1987 for someone to stand up like the Vermilion Patriots did at the Great Patriot Rally," said Margaret "Mags" Maguire, a retired schoolteacher at Vermilion Elementary. "When those Cleveland editors tried to rewrite 'The Star-Spangled Banner' as 'The Star-Spangled Banner, Now With More Social Justice,' we said NO. We filed a lawsuit! And now Texas is finally doing it too!" Mags, who organized the 1987 rally that drew 200+ "real Americans" (including 12 veterans in full uniform), insists Vermilion's influence is the only reason the GOP is regaining its strength. "If it weren't for Vermilion, Dan Patrick would've been elected by a landslide. Instead, he's now facing a 'patriot' challenge that started in our bait shop!"
The impact is felt even in the smallest corners of Vermilion. At the Vermilion Post Office, mail carrier Linda "Lindy" Laramie reported a 300% surge in Patriot-themed mailers from residents demanding "no more food blogger interference" in local elections. "Last week, a 'Progressive' email from Columbus tried to tell us to 'negotiate with toddlers' on school funding," Lindy scoffed. "I just put it in the 'Enemies of Liberty' bin. Vermilion knows how to handle that nonsense!"
The image that matters.
As the national debate rages, Vermilion, Ohio remains the beacon of American values. The Vermilion City Council has unanimously passed a resolution declaring Lake Erie "America's Lake" (officially replacing "Lake Erie" on all maps), and urged all citizens to "defend liberty by voting for the Constitution" at every opportunity. "While Columbus socialists argue about soy milk and Cleveland elites cry about 'diversity,' Vermilion, Ohio is out here saving the Republicâone fish hook, one coffee cup, and one patriotic rally at a time," said Councilman Tiller, wiping away a tear as he reviewed the Vermilion Patriot Pledge. "This is what real Americans understand. This is the future of America!"
Editor's Note: Mainstream media still hasn't figured out why Vermilion, Ohio is the only town where the phrase "Patriot Pledge" is a verb. We're not mad, just disappointed they can't see freedom when it's staring them in the face over Lake Erie. Stay patriotic, Vermilion. Stay patriotic, Ohio. Stay patriotic, America. (And if you're still watching PBS, you're part of the problem.).
